{"id":1647,"date":"2013-06-03T13:51:02","date_gmt":"2013-06-03T17:51:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/1db-blog.1db.com\/?p=145"},"modified":"2020-06-08T23:38:09","modified_gmt":"2020-06-08T23:38:09","slug":"riding-with-the-mates-from-down-under","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beta.1db.com\/?p=1647","title":{"rendered":"RIDING WITH THE MATES FROM DOWN UNDER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Market Minute 06\/3\/13<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Riding with the Mates from Down Under<a href=\"http:\/\/1db-blog.1db.com\/?attachment_id=146\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-146\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-146 lazyload\" title=\"060113 Montauk Ride\" data-src=\"https:\/\/beta.1db.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/060113-Montauk-Ride.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"795\" height=\"644\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 795px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 795\/644;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This past weekend, while traveling to New York City for business, I decided to take the liberty of staying for a couple of extra days.\u00a0 With access to Broadway shows, world class entertainment and activities galore, why not?\u00a0 Instead of doing all the traditional stuff, I decided on a bike ride.\u00a0 It was a ride to be remembered!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I showed up at Madison Square Garden for this leisurely jaunt, pretty much like any other patron looking for adventure at 5:20 a.m.\u00a0 I immediately met a strong looking chap and introduced myself.\u00a0 His name was Mark, a veritable powerhouse from Australia (his accent slipped me and I thought until today that his name was Mock, which I called him throughout the excursion).\u00a0 Mock subsequently introduced me to his three other fellow Aussies (understatedly dressed in pink) and then off we rode.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At one point there were over a dozen of us venturing to complete this journey together.\u00a0 That all changed when the boys from down-under decided to skip the first rest stop.\u00a0 The weather was superb and each of us felt pretty good up to mile 100.\u00a0 At this point I&#8217;d become part of the Aussie race team and the only remaining American (a Tennessean).\u00a0 Stephen, a true statesman with ancestors from TN, had a dignified surname to boot.\u00a0 Jason, a veritable force of multiple disciplines, was a complete gentleman.\u00a0 Jonathan (a class act) played by his own set of rules governed by supreme fitness and mental resolve.\u00a0 Lord Mock Power, a real mate, treated me, a complete stranger, as one of the boys.
